4:34 pm - Shoppe Stalls?

For a while now, I'd been thinking of opening a shoppe stall to see if I can earn some extra Poe...
Does anyone know where I can read up more about it, as well as give me some pointers/tips? Like...is it a good idea, or will I just end up making myself more poor by having a stall? *laughs!*

12:09 am - Not Qualified Enough? And a Question

I absolutely LOVE going on Cursed Island Adventures. Out of all the times I've gone so far (which I've lost count now), only about two of the adventures (this I've kept count of!) have sunk. Over all, the trips have been pretty successful, and they're a lot of fun.

However, whenever I go on CI adventures, it's always because I'm invited by my hearty. If I tried to apply for a job with someone who's going to a CI on the Notice Board, I *never* get picked, and it seems my inquiry just goes on ignored/denied.

Has anyone ever got that before? Could it be that the captain of the ship is looking at my stats and think I'm not qualified enough, even though I know the puzzles, but just have lousy stats currently?

Also a question...Is it against the rules and/or ToS to exchange an in-game item for artwork? For example, say I wanted a Serpent, but there's no way in the Seven Seas I'll ever be able to save up my PoE and afford one...so I offer a commission illustration instead - the interested party with a serpent would get an original piece of artwork (mailed right to them if they wanted), and in exchange, I'd get the serpent.

I was just curious about that :)

5:33 pm - Ship Ownership.

I will soon be the proud owner of my very first ship, a Sloop, and I'm just wondering what some of the basics are I should know for running it? I'm looking forward to being able to go out to pilly and such on my own boat instead of applying for jobs with other people.

1:43 pm - Help Defend Wrasse!

So, it appears that Blood and Roses has decided to try and take the lovely island of Wrasse away from Cold Steel.

We will be defending our homeland.

Jobbing begins at 11:30 game time. Dulcinea is the jobbing contact for now, an additional one may be added.

We'll be matching their pay at 200/segment performance, and raising it as they do, or as the jobbing numbers indicate.

Please come help us defend. It would be greatly appreciated.

10:57 am - Custom client sizes

So, while looking into some problems I was having, I came across this little beauty of a thread on the main YPP forums.

Short answer, YPP stores the client window resolution in a java preferences setting.
I have often wished that the YPP client supported window resizing. It doesn't, and I accept that.
Given this little bit, you can go tweak your system and get any client size you want.

For windows users, those preferences are stored at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\rsrc\config\yohoho\client
Linux: $HOME/.java/.userPrefs/rsrc/config/yohoho/client/prefs.xml
MacOS: /rsrc.config.yohoho.plist

The values you want to change are: display_height and display_width

I'm currently running it at 1200x700.
I wanted it to be almost full screen, but give me a bit of real-estate on both sides of the screen for IM tools and the such.

11:04 am - Shameless Plug

Figure that there's no harm in pluging my own action on the forums..

To the Mod: If you think this is the wrong place, please let me know and I'll delete it.

I am auctioning an un-named Karkinos pet. Color according to the wiki is Aqua / Silver.

Here's a link to the Wiki if you want more information

He's a beautiful pet, and very good at keeping those Dragoons at bay!
He's also a great guard animal. Currently he's guarding Field of Breams on Gaea. Stop by and see him.

Please see the forum thread for the current bid (Linked up above)

7:24 pm - Ship ownership?

What all is involved in ship ownership? If I'm part of a flag/crew do I have to talk to my captain before I can get a ship, or would getting a ship just become a new ship under the flag? *hopes she makes some form of sense XD* I noticed the smallest ships aren't all that expensive and I kind of would like to get a ship and see what happens, but I don't know all the finer details of owning my own ship.

11:11 pm

Ahoy again, and my apologies for not posting sooner. You may have noticed that everything is gone - this is because we're having internet problems again, though weirdly enough not the same kind as before. Hooray for statistically improbable lightning strikes, I suppose. >.< Everything is being done to get things up and running, but unfortunately we don't have an ETA as of yet.

3:29 pm - Outage - My Research.

First off: I am not speaking on behalf of OOO in any official capacity what so ever. I'm just a person who's done a bit of research into the outage on my own.

All of my traces, regardless of where I try and connect from end like this:
12 core-01.ge-1-1.sfo1.gni.com ( 10.237 ms 9.709 ms 9.702 ms
13 router-edge1a.threerings.net ( 10.845 ms 12.148 ms 11.778 ms
14 router-edge1a.threerings.net ( 11.391 ms !H 10.998 ms !H 15.374 ms !H

Line # 14 is where you see the problem. The !H stuff.
That's the router saying, essentially, "I can't find the host on the inside"

It can be caused by routing table issues on the router. I.E. someone fed their router crap info. Considering it started happening last night, I don't suspect that's the problem.
It can be caused by a failed link between the router and the inside firewall or switch, or whatever the "next hop" is for connecting to the game server. I don't know their layout, so can't say. However, if it was a bad cable, card, etc, I suspect it would have been found fairly quickly as well.
What that leaves us with is a problem either on the firewall itself (Possible) or with the internal LAN segment (another possibility)

The one thing I find odd is that of all the oceans except malachite are not responding on port 4007 (the YPP game port)

~$ telnet midnight.puzzlepirates.com 4007

~$ telnet cobalt.puzzlepirates.com 4007

~$ telnet sage.puzzlepirates.com 4007

~$ telnet malachite.puzzlepirates.com 4007
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

But Malachite is actively telling people "Get Lost"

I'll keep digging into this, and provide updates here, unless people think it's not appropriate.

12:17 am - We are hosting a cross-ocean forum contest 'Still Teh Prettiest'

From our discussion thread on the forums.

Still Teh Prettiest!

"A fine table it is, if by table mean ye a stump bolstered by iron fish. Is this a table that you'd be makin', or is it merely a new an' interestin' form of anchor? For if ye'd see this as aught other'n purposed as ballast, it needs have not just strength but looks. I've heard that cedar lionheads be most valued fer improvin' the looks of this lot."

We want the prettiest, the strongest, the best... but we are only three pirates. Which is why we are running a contest asking you, the vast and wonderful pirates of the Forums, to help us decide which GCPP Gilthead Table is 'Still Teh Prettiest'. And have we got bribes... lures... bait... temptations... enticements contest prizes for you! which include Fish! Custom named sloops! Fish! Trinkets! Fish! Fancy Clothes! Fish! and also ... Fish.

The object of this contest is to create interesting and attractive patterns for use in our GCPP Gilthead Furnishing Puzzle proposal game. Within our game, patterns based on horizontal color bands, and vertical shape matching result in normal bonuses, but for certain special patterns (e.g. a table filled entirely with nothing but FISH!!) we want to award bigger bonuses. Sure, we could come up with patterns all on our own - and we have - but where's the fun in that?

10:55 am - Looking for german translator, short notice

It looks like my German translator has glubbed. :D
Anyone able and willing to translate two pages of Forum Contest Announcement and Rules by oooooh tonight?
One of the judges can read German well enough we won't need help once the contest is going, but we need help getting started. We're really like to include Opal.

In the wake of the recent outage, someone mentioned this community as possibly a good place to post in case of emergencies, and I agree - thank you for pointing it out!

I certainly hope we don't have any reason to, but, pending an actual official website, if everything goes pear-shaped again, I'll try to post here with an update as to what's going on if I'm around while it's happening. This is not a "oh hey, this is now the official place to Do Such Things" message, but I thought I'd let you mates know. I'm sorry I didn't think of it earlier - I should have known there'd be a community on livejournal!
